Yuvraj Singh 150 runs vs England | IND vs ENG, 2nd ODI 2017

Indian teams promotes Suresh Raina above Yuvraj

The Indian team management has made a very smart move by slotting Suresh Raina ahead of Yuvraj Singh at no. 4 in the batting order.

In the past, whenever Yuvraj and Raina had been in the playing XI together, it was always the former who would bat at no. 4 and the latter would come in at 5 or 6.

But, now, the two of them are at different stages of their careers and while, Raina is close to his peak, Yuvraj is only half the player that he was as far as his batting is concerned.

He can clearly not hit those sixes with as much ease as he could.

So, it makes complete sense for Raina to be batting higher now as he can benefit the team more in comparison to Yuvraj.

However, Yuvraj’s presence in the XI is quite critical as he is an experienced player and not only can he score handy runs down the order, his bowling can also be utilized to great effect on the Indian tracks. (more…)

India has not picked any fast bowler with extra pace in the T20 squad

India has not picked any fast bowler with extra pace in the T20 squad for the South Africa series.

According to the chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil, the selections have been done keeping in mind the nature of the pitches that the teams are likely to encounter.

The three games of the series are going to be played in Dharamsala, Cuttack and Kolkata respectively.

While, Dharamsala is a batting wicket, the other two are the sluggish ones where the ball does not sit up to be hit and the bowlers, who believe in change ups, get facilitated the most.

The Indian captain MS Dhoni had pointed out earlier this year that rather than raw pace, a little more emphasis should be paid on skills when it comes to picking the bowlers for the subcontinent games.

So, the captain’s views might also be taken into account by the selectors.

However, for the ODI series that is to follow just after the T20 one, Umesh Yadav has been picked.

Yadav was a hero for India in the bowling department during the World Cup, but, he was really reckless against Bangladesh and Dhoni was indirectly critical about him addressing the press at the completion of that tour. (more…)

Yuvraj Singh says no matter if he is handed a national recall or not

Yuvraj Singh says no matter if he is handed a national recall or not, he would not leave Cricket till he finds enjoyment playing it.

Yuvraj has been featuring for Punjab in domestic circuit this season and has been able to do well so far, but, still, has failed to get himself noticed by the Indian selectors.

However, that isn’t concerning him. His focus is on to score as many runs as he can for Punjab.

Talking to a local daily in Chandigarh the other day, the left hander said, “The reason why we all got into Cricket in our childhood was the fact that it was great fun playing it. And, it’s still fun for me and as long as it is so, you would see me being active in the game.”

“Yes, representing your nation is always a privilege and it’s something that you want to do as a professional player. So, I am hopeful that another chance comes my way, but, I would only be able to earn that opportunity for myself if I do well in domestic Cricket. So, focusing on these matches is the most important thing for me at the moment.” (more…)

Suresh Raina reckons the promotion of his captain MS Dhoni

Suresh Raina reckons the promotion of his captain MS Dhoni in the batting order in One Day Cricket is a good thing from the team’s point of view as the Ranchi veteran is not only capable of building partnerships, but, can also accelerate with great effect and thus, can control the Indian innings.

Dhoni has mostly batted at 6 or 7 for his national side in all forms of the game, but, on the Bangladesh tour, he opted to move up the order citing the need of a versatile player to be slotted at that position and he hinted that he would probably like to keep himself there in the future too.

If Dhoni continues to be in higher middle order for India, then Raina will have to take the responsibility of finishing the innings and the Ghaziabad left hander says he is ready for it.

In an interview to a website last evening, the 28-year old said, “Being a finisher is not the easiest job in Cricket. You always enter the ground in a demanding situation. You have to bat with a very high strike rate and then, you have to make sure you remain consistent as well. If you fall cheaply in 3 or 4 games, the jury will be out on you. You’ve got to be temperamentally very good if you want to achieve success in the role of a finisher.” (more…)
