India has not picked any fast bowler with extra pace in the T20 squad for the South Africa series.

According to the chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil, the selections have been done keeping in mind the nature of the pitches that the teams are likely to encounter.

The three games of the series are going to be played in Dharamsala, Cuttack and Kolkata respectively.

While, Dharamsala is a batting wicket, the other two are the sluggish ones where the ball does not sit up to be hit and the bowlers, who believe in change ups, get facilitated the most.

The Indian captain MS Dhoni had pointed out earlier this year that rather than raw pace, a little more emphasis should be paid on skills when it comes to picking the bowlers for the subcontinent games.

So, the captain’s views might also be taken into account by the selectors.

However, for the ODI series that is to follow just after the T20 one, Umesh Yadav has been picked.

Yadav was a hero for India in the bowling department during the World Cup, but, he was really reckless against Bangladesh and Dhoni was indirectly critical about him addressing the press at the completion of that tour.

But, he has been given another chance to prove that he is not just a bowler for overseas conditions and can do a fair bit of damage to the opposition on slow wickets too.

Yadav has been in and out of the Indian side because of his inconsistency.  Despite having made his debut 5 years back, he has not been able to become a regular for India in any format of the game.

He has played only 12 test matches and 49 ODIs for India so far.
