Suresh Raina reckons the promotion of his captain MS Dhoni in the batting order in One Day Cricket is a good thing from the team’s point of view as the Ranchi veteran is not only capable of building partnerships, but, can also accelerate with great effect and thus, can control the Indian innings.

Dhoni has mostly batted at 6 or 7 for his national side in all forms of the game, but, on the Bangladesh tour, he opted to move up the order citing the need of a versatile player to be slotted at that position and he hinted that he would probably like to keep himself there in the future too.

If Dhoni continues to be in higher middle order for India, then Raina will have to take the responsibility of finishing the innings and the Ghaziabad left hander says he is ready for it.

In an interview to a website last evening, the 28-year old said, “Being a finisher is not the easiest job in Cricket. You always enter the ground in a demanding situation. You have to bat with a very high strike rate and then, you have to make sure you remain consistent as well. If you fall cheaply in 3 or 4 games, the jury will be out on you. You’ve got to be temperamentally very good if you want to achieve success in the role of a finisher.”

When asked about Dhoni batting at 4, Raina said, “MS, in my opinion, is a good fit at 4. He is someone who has got all the gears. He can manipulate the attack and can go big too when the situation arises.”

Dhoni averages close to 70 at no. 4. That’s his best average at any batting position.
